Khumbulekhaya: Building a Community of Financial Freedom
Khumbulekhaya is a registered stokvel (NASASA Registration Number: 153626) that is currently evolving into a multi-entity financial and business ecosystem. Established in 2016, we are dedicated to creating a powerful and positive impact within our community by directly addressing the financial challenges associated with travel expenses through innovation, investment, and collective ownership.
Our journey began with a simple stokvel model focused on savings. Today, we are strategically building The Khumbu Ecosystem—a structured network of entities designed to provide holistic solutions that empower our members across various facets of their lives, from day-to-day commuting to long-term wealth creation.
To ensure financial sustainability, community empowerment, and long-term scalability, Khumbulekhaya is in the process of establishing four distinct but interconnected entities:
Purpose: To serve as the "Mother Entity" that advocates for affordable travel, financial inclusion, and skill development. It will ensure all profits are channeled back into community upliftment.
Focus: Research into affordable transport, engagement with taxi associations and government, policy advocacy, and managing our Community Skills & Business Database to connect members with opportunities.
Purpose: To generate revenue through transport services, business support, and investments. Profits will be reinvested into the NPO's community programs.
Focus: Managing Khumbu Travel, Khumbu Business development support, and Khumbu Invest operations.
Purpose: To enable members to co-own businesses and investment projects directly, sharing in the profits and wealth they create.
Focus: Member-owned transport fleets, property investments, and collective investment in various ventures.
Purpose: The enduring heart of our community, providing financial support through savings and loan schemes. It acts as the core funding mechanism for the larger ecosystem.
Focus: Pooling member savings and offering access to exclusive investment opportunities within the broader Khumbu ecosystem.
This is the core initiative addressing our primary mission. We are building a community-driven transport system through three capability levels:
A key future strategy is collaboration with the taxi industry. We plan to negotiate discounted fares and introduce a Loyalty Rewards Program. Members will earn points for rides with partnered operators, redeemable for free trips or cashback. This creates a win-win: our members save money, and taxi partners gain a large, reliable customer base.
Khumbu Invest represents our community's collective investment approach as a registered stokvel. These are group investments undertaken by our stokvel members collectively. This platform provides information to help you make individual decisions, but all investments are made as a group through our stokvel structure.

Manages business-related operations, focusing on strategic cost-saving and income generation. This initiative is supported by the Community Skills & Business Database (in development), a centralized platform designed to facilitate connections and collaborations between stokvel members and local businesses.
Provides comprehensive support (business planning, marketing, IT, legal) to entrepreneurs, leveraging our Community Skills and Business Database.
A personal development initiative offering workshops, forums, and courses to enhance members' skills in time management, financial planning, and other essential competencies.
