Khumbulekhaya is a registered stokvel (NASASA Registration Number: 153626) that is currently evolving into a multi-entity financial and business ecosystem. Established in 2016, we are dedicated to creating a powerful and positive impact within our community by directly addressing the financial challenges associated with travel expenses through innovation, investment, and collective ownership.
Our journey began with a simple stokvel model focused on savings. Today, we are strategically building The Khumbu Ecosystem—a structured network of entities designed to provide holistic solutions that empower our members across various facets of their lives, from day-to-day commuting to long-term wealth creation.
The Khumbu Ecosystem: Our Structure for Sustainable Growth
To ensure financial sustainability, community empowerment, and long-term scalability, Khumbulekhaya is in the process of establishing four distinct but interconnected entities:
1Khumbu Community Development Initiative (KCDI) – [NPO - In Establishment]
Purpose: To serve as the "Mother Entity" that advocates for affordable travel, financial inclusion, and skill development. It will ensure all profits are channeled back into community upliftment.
Focus: Research into affordable transport, engagement with taxi associations and government, policy advocacy, and managing our Community Skills & Business Database to connect members with opportunities.
2Khumbu Holdings Pty Ltd – [For-Profit Arm - In Establishment. To be FSP registered]
Purpose: To generate revenue through transport services, business support, and investments. Profits will be reinvested into the NPO's community programs.
Focus: Managing Khumbu Travel, Khumbu Business development support, and Khumbu Invest operations.
3Khumbu Cooperative – [Community-Owned Model - Planned]
Purpose: To enable members to co-own businesses and investment projects directly, sharing in the profits and wealth they create.
Focus: Member-owned transport fleets, property investments, and collective investment in various ventures.
4Khumbulekhaya Stokvel – [Core Financial Foundation - Operational]
Purpose: The enduring heart of our community, providing financial support through savings and loan schemes. It acts as the core funding mechanism for the larger ecosystem.
Focus: Pooling member savings and offering access to exclusive investment opportunities within the broader Khumbu ecosystem.
Our Key Operations & Initiatives
Khumbu Travel (Transport System)
This is the core initiative addressing our primary mission. We are building a community-driven transport system through three capability levels:
- Near Future (In Planning): Launching a dedicated travel app/website and forming initial partnerships.
- Full Future (Envisaged): Operating a sophisticated travel platform with strategic collaborations.
A key future strategy is collaboration with the taxi industry. We plan to negotiate discounted fares and introduce a Loyalty Rewards Program. Members will earn points for rides with partnered operators, redeemable for free trips or cashback. This creates a win-win: our members save money, and taxi partners gain a large, reliable customer base.
Khumbu Invest
Khumbu Invest represents our community's collective investment approach as a registered stokvel. These are group investments undertaken by our stokvel members collectively. This platform provides information to help you make individual decisions, but all investments are made as a group through our stokvel structure.
Our diversified group investment strategy includes:
- Business Investments: Strategic investments in promising businesses with growth potential. These are group investments by the stokvel where we identify high-potential ventures and provide collective capital to help them succeed.
- Property Investments: Real estate acquisitions and property development projects. We focus on both residential and commercial properties with strong growth prospects as group investments by the stokvel.
- Financial Markets: Investments in stock markets, bonds, and other financial instruments. Our diversified approach helps members participate in various market opportunities through collective stokvel investment.
- Community Crowdfunding: This is a core function of our model. Khumbu Invest facilitates and manages crowd-funded investment opportunities, allowing our members to pool their resources collectively as a stokvel for larger impactful projects.
Khumbu Business & Development
Manages business-related operations, focusing on strategic cost-saving and income generation. This initiative is supported by the Community Skills & Business Database (in development), a centralized platform designed to facilitate connections and collaborations between stokvel members and local businesses.
Business Assist
Provides comprehensive support (business planning, marketing, IT, legal) to entrepreneurs, leveraging our Community Skills and Business Database.
Knowledge is Power Movement
A personal development initiative offering workshops, forums, and courses to enhance members' skills in time management, financial planning, and other essential competencies.
